We rang in the new year and celebrated our second 14 months in business with -- how else? -- friends and wine.

Reviews

Tell us and everyone else what you think of Vino 100 Polaris in Westerville, OH.

Who says the celebrating's over?

Sure, all the gifts have been opened, the leftovers consumed, and family and friends gone back to their respective hometowns. (And yes, it's snowing like a banshee and the winter blahs have officially set in.) But we still have plenty of reasons to get together--over some great wine, of course--starting with these occasions.

14 Month Anniversary Party: Saturday, 1/16, 2 - 5 pm
It's our unique way of saying thanks for all your support over the past (our second) 14 months in business. We'll be tasting 14 different $14 wines (some old favorites and lots of new finds), serving free anniversary cake, and listening to the sax/drum/bass grooves of the Colin Martin jazz trio. Cost: just $14 (plus tax). No RSVP required, but attendance will be capped. So plan on arriving promptly at 1400. (That's 2:00 pm in civilian time.)

Wine & Women: Wednesday, 1/20, 6:30 - 8:30 pm
This is a deal worth coordinating schedules for. You get to taste 6 wines plus appetizers, and spend quality time gossiping with your girlfriends, for just $15 plus tax per person. Pre-paid reservations required. Stop in or call 614.895.VINO (8466) with credit card payment to sign up.

Wine 101 class: Thursday, 1/28, 6:30 - 8:00 pm
If you've ever said, "I need to learn about wine," here's the perfect place to start. In this overview class (featuring a tasting of various white and red wines), we'll talk about how wine is made, the different classifications, and the flavor profiles of the major 8 varietals. (Lesson #1: "varietal" means type of grape.) Seating is limited, pre-paid reservations required. Cost: $20 plus tax per person. Gaining confidence about wine: priceless. Call 614.895.VINO (8466) to sign up.

Coming in February
In keeping with our New Year's resolution of giving you more advance notice on events, here's what's tentatively scheduled. Times and prices TBD.
Port Tasting: Thursday, 2/3 (a great way to check out some Valentine gift possibilities)
Meet the Author of "Their Last Suppers": Wednesday, 2/10. A wine and cheese reception with chef/historian Andrew Caldwell, who has written about famous historical figures, their appetites, and last meals.
"What am I Tasting?" class: end of February. Focusing on sensory perceptions (smells, tastes, and texures) of wine, this is a follow-up class to Wine 101 (although can be taken independently).

Of Wine and Words
Longstanding Vino customer and wordsmith Howard Hewitt wrote about our place recently on the Palate Press blog. You can check out the article here and read more of Howard's work at his own blog, Grape Sense. Speaking of writers, we're sad to bid farewell to one of the best teams in the business - the Wall Street Journal's Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher. Their final "Tastings" is just as classy, personal, and down-to-earth as the column's been for the past 10 years.

Spinyback's back - but only 1 case
Our supplier has found a little more of this delicately tropical New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, and since it was a customer favorite, we nabbed a case. It should arrive next week.

How'd we do?
We love knowing if/how our recommendations pan out. (Joel's Hocking Hills case, Kristy's New Year's Eve feast, Cindy's Brazilian in-laws Champagne...) Until we can revise the website to include a comment form, feel free to submit a review on our Facebook page.
Want to share something you read - maybe invite a friend to one of this month's events?
And you can always reach us through the Vino 100 Polaris website.

We're grateful for all the old friends we saw, and new friends we met, during the 2009 holiday season. May the merriment and good wines continue to flow throughout 2010.

Cheers!
The Vino 100 Polaris Team
